total fulfilment
To be enlightened is to feel so fulfilled that you can happily die any moment
Have you ever had that feeling? Have you ever felt so content, so happy, that the thought has come, ’If I die today it’s okay, I die happy’? Perhaps it’s come once in a while, not so often for most people. But when we are living every day in that state of contentment, of fulfilment, when we are living every moment with that feeling, then we are in the enlightened state. There is nothing left to be done. There is nothing more to be achieved. There’s no need to strive for anything. We are at peace with the world. We are fulfilled. This is the state, this is enlightenment.
Most people have tasted it, for a moment at least, without even realising it. Most of us, once in a blue moon, have had this feeling of total contentment, of total fulfilment. What is it that stops this from being our state of mind all the time? If you watch closely, you will see it is just our desires, our thoughts about the way things could be. Of course when things are going perfectly well for us, when everything is beautiful, such thoughts are, for a moment, absent. We are no longer struggling to change things from the way they are. For an enlightened one, this is the understanding in every moment, that things are somehow perfect, beautiful. Nothing needs to be changed. Existence is flowering in this moment in a unique way, just perfectly. There’s nothing that one needs to do to correct it, to make it better.
So when we are feeling complete fulfilment, ready to die in any moment, so happy with life the way it is, this is it, this is the enlightened state the sages have spoken of for millennia. Anyone can come to know it, and not just once in a blue moon, but every day, every moment.
