Returning home is like
Relaxing in a warm bath
Our spiritual journey is a homecoming. We are returning home, returning to our natural home, the home that is within each of us, at the centre of our being. And this homecoming is felt as a great relief.
It's a beautiful analogy homecoming. It captures the feeling well. Our home is somewhere where we can relax, where we feel safe, not threatened. And because we're not threatened we don't have to struggle. Home is the place where we can rest, so we're not having to work.
So returning home is already a great analogy for what our spiritual journey is about. But to add analogy to the analogy, our spiritual homecoming is like relaxing in a warm bath. You must know that feeling. You've been working hard, or traveling, and you finally get home, rather weary and feeling perhaps a little grubby. Now you are at home, though, and already you are beginning to relax. And then you step into a warm bath. You lie down in that warm water. And finally you can relax completely. There's absolutely nothing to do, nowhere to go, no effort needed at all. One just allows the warmth of the water to soak into the muscles until the whole body becomes totally relaxed. And with the relaxation of the body, the mind, too, is completely relaxed. There's no need to think about anything. Relaxing in this warm bath one can simply be, effortlessly. What a relief. Ahh.
