orgasm of peace

Coming to the truth

Nothing but an orgasm of peace

The end point, if there is such a thing, of the spiritual journey, is peace: a deep, pervasive, inner peace; peace with oneself, peace with other people, peace with the world. And this peace comes through seeing the truth. And by this, we don't mean an intellectual understanding of truth – profound truth.

This truth is beyond words. Truths which can be said in words are relative truths. But the truth we come to, when we plunge into our spirituality, is an absolute truth. And this absolute truth is not a thought. It's not a mental understanding. It cannot be put into words. It is the direct moment to moment contact, and more than contact, non-separation from all that is, as it is in the moment, without any urge to change one iota.

For whilst we are trying to change things, whilst we have that discontent within us, we are in an agitated state. We are not at peace. So when that agitation of discontent drops away, then we are in a state where we can sense the truth. We can feel it. We can live it. We can be the truth. And with that comes the peace, a great peace. It is the ending of that anguish, the anguish of discontent, the anguish of wanting things to be different to the way they are. This is peace.

Perhaps the most amazing thing about this peace, though, is that it feels orgasmic. Normally we think of orgasm as an excited state: enjoyable, yes, but not peaceful. And yet, when this great peace descends upon us, it is such a relief, it does feel orgasmic. It is as if we are dwelling permanently in the state of post orgasmic bliss – nothing to do, nowhere to go – just enjoying the sensation of being alive, and resting in the great peace that is within.
