cotton robes

Breaking the lock of the rusty trunk
Cotton robes slip comfortably into place

There are many strange things about the spiritual journey. And the further one journeys, the stranger things become. One moves from a world where things are known, or at least thought to be known, into a world of mystery where nothing is known. And in this space of mystery, all sorts of unexpected, strange things come to light. They were there all along but we had lost sight of them.

And so it is when we reach to our very centre. There we find something that is totally unexpected and yet – and here is the strangeness of it all – at the same time as being unexpected, it feels so comfortable, it feels like an old friend, it has been there all along.

And this is the experience of every enlightened person upon their enlightenment. It is both amazing and, at the same time, nothing special. For each one there is this feeling that it has always been there. And it fits so comfortably. It fits like a glove. It just falls into place upon us.

You too – if you have not realised this for yourself yet at least take my word for it – you too have this buddha nature at the core of your being; something that has always been there and always shall be; something that fits you so perfectly, you don’t even notice it; and something that is so totally natural that you are completely at ease with it: Our buddha nature. Ahhh.

So, break the lock on that old, rusty trunk. It is time to allow those cotton robes to fall into place.
