try touching a tree
Maybe you do this anyway, in which case this little exercise, this meditation, will come easily to you. But for others, this may be very challenging. If you are not accustomed to touching trees, you will probably feel slightly awkward when you first try it. You might find yourself looking around nervously to see who is watching you, what other people may be thinking of you. This is normal. But persevere and try to get beyond this stage of self-consciousness and doubt.
Then touch a tree with your hands. You can try facing the tree, resting your hands on its trunk. Or hugging the tree. Or leaning with your back against the trunk of a tree, with the palms of your hands also touching the trunk.
And then allow your mind to become quiet. Bring awareness to the feeling, the sensations in your hands and in your body. Allow your worries to drop away. Try for a few minutes to be really with the tree. Let go of those concerns as to what other people may think of you. Becomes sensitive to the feelings in your body, the sensations; and also to any unusual thoughts that pop into your mind.
Allow all this to happen whilst touching the tree.
