silence

Today, I feel to speak about silence. Of course, it is a crazy thing to do. Just see the absurdity of it: silence and speaking. They are diametrically opposed. So the words, the words about silence, will not be able to convey silence. The words cannot carry silence. But perhaps they can hint at it. Perhaps, poetically, they can somehow give something of the feel of silence.

And by silence, of course we do not mean an absence of sound. We do not mean merely not talking. By silence, we mean a great silence in the consciousness, without thoughts, without emotions – a stillness of consciousness. And it is in this great silence that one comes to know truth. It is in the space of this silence that the whole beauty of existence flowers before one, within one. Yet it is not before one or within one, it is one. There is a flowering. And the consciousness of that flowering is the flowering itself. In this silence, consciousness, and the things that consciousness is aware of, are no longer separate. And then even the duality between consciousness and the material world is transcended.

Silence.

May this silence come to you my friends. May this silence come to you.
