gospel of Thomas 10

Jesus said, "I have cast fire upon the world, and see, I am guarding it until it blazes."

Ah, don't you love it when a master talks like this? Jesus has not only cast fire upon the world, he is on fire. On fire with the spirituality that has become his whole being. And he is spreading it. This is the way of spirituality. It is an inferno. Our essence is waiting to engulf us. To flare up. To burn up everything that the ego is. It's a crazy process. Wild, out of control.

And Jesus, like any good master, is there to strike the match. To throw fuel on the fire. To do whatever he can, to make the flame that is inside you flare up and become ablaze.

This is the language of tantra, that leaves nothing unburnt, except your true nature. Feel it. Do you tremble with fear, when you hear these words of Jesus?

Your ego will be trembling. For this fire that Jesus has cast upon the world will burn up your ego, will burn up everything that you think you are and yet you are not.

And it is not just Jesus who has cast fire upon the world. Every master, from every spiritual tradition, has been casting fire upon the world. This is the work of the master. Setting fire to the spirit in everyone.

It is there anyway. Perhaps just a little flickering flame somewhere inside you, not yet sensed. But it is there. Begging for oxygen, begging for fuel, waiting. Waiting to flare up. Waiting to consume you. Waiting to liberate you.
