copper coloured rock
I am sitting on a copper coloured rock. There must be some metal in the rock: copper, iron, I don't know what, I'm not a geologist. But seeing this, of course it reminds me that the metal that we use comes from rocks. And dwelling on this, I realise that the process of smelting – of taking the metal out of the rock – it's like a distillation. We're trying to make the metal more and more pure. And this for me is an analogy to our spiritual endeavour.
Each of us is living with a spiritual essence, somewhere in us. And there may be hints of it from time to time, just as there are hints of the metal in this rock I am sitting on. But on the spiritual journey we need to distill that. We need to bring more and more awareness to our essence. We need to smelt our psychology, our consciousness. We need to distill it down, until we are feeling our essence so strongly that it is coming through in our daily life, without us having to make the effort anymore. But to get there, to reach that point, we need to distill ourself. This is what this rock is reminding me of today.
